Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler & Joe Perry Nominated For Tony Awards For “Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical”

Aerosmith has received almost every stellar award for music there is in the book. They’ve won American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and so on and so on. But one award that they have yet to place on their mantlepiece for their decades of work in music is a Tony Award.

But all of that could change because both Steven Tyler and Joe Perry have received nominations for a Tony Award for their musical contributions for SpongeBob Squarepants: The Musical for “Best Original Score (Music And/Or Lyrics) Written For The Theatre.” Listen to their composition “Bikini Bottom Boogie” below!

Joe Perry Says Aerosmith Planning 50th Anniversary Tour

Aerosmith’s Joe Perry says that the band is working on putting together a 50th anniversary tour.

“I think, the way things are going, we are going to try and take it easy,” he told the Atlantic City Weekly. “We may do a couple more one-offs — maybe some festivals over the next six or eight months. In 2019, we will be closing in on our 50th anniversary, so we are planning some dates and a tour to celebrate that. Right now we are pretty much laying low and finishing up some solo things before we start that.”

Speaking of solo material, Perry released Sweetzerland Manifesto, his first non-holiday solo album in eight years, this past January. The album features collaborations with Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, as well as David Johansen and Terry Reid.

Joe Perry talks about performing with his friends, the Hollywood Vampires, and his solo album ‘Sweetzerland Mainfesto’

On January 19, 2018 Joe Perry released his latest solo album. Curiously entitled Sweetzerland Manifesto, the record is a hard rocking release featuring the once-coveted Terry Reid, who is best known for his “almost” moment making musical history as the front man of Led Zeppelin. He turned it down due to other commitments, but suggested Page use a vocalist by the name of Robert Plant. Reid’s collaborations read like a who’s who of some of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest artists and once Joe Perry knew he was living nearby, he called him up to come sing on the record. Other vocals on the album include Gary Cherone (Extreme), David Johansen (New York Dolls) and Robin Zander (Cheap Trick).

It’s easily Joe Perry’s best solo album, even though it features two instrumentals out of ten altogether, which – let’s admit it – we usually tend to skip over in exchange for fiery, harder rocking tunes, or vocally powerful ballads. And it’s hard to say that, knowing that this was supposed to be an instrumental album. That said, the album has received critical praise from a number of publications. This may be Perry’s proudest moment of his life, partly because he worked on this album with two of his sons, Roman and Tony, but also because he has a new Hollywood Vampires in the works, one that features Alice Cooper on vocals. He will be touring again with the Hollywood Vampires from May 24 to July 25, 2018.

As if that wasn’t enough, he’s doing only three shows with “Joe Perry and Friends,” presumably to support the new album, first at the House of Blues in Boston on Wednesday, then coming to the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom on Thursday and wrapping up in Altantic City on Friday. To say that he couldn’t be busier would be an understatement. But there is a sort of excitement – exhilaration even – in his voice. We talked with him this week in advance of the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom show and here’s what he had to say.

Back from the brink, Joe Perry rediscovers the joy of playing

“I’ve certainly had a couple other instances where I’ve pushed myself over the edge, but never in such a public way, you know?” says the 67-year-old Perry in a phone interview from West Hollywood. “Certainly we’re seeing more and more people pass from one thing or another, whether it’s age or abuse. And I don’t want to be on that list. So I learned a lot. But also, frankly, I rediscovered the guitar. You know, a lot of things that I took for granted and left behind in this long and varied career, I kind of went back to again.”

Joe Perry talks Sweetzerland Manifesto – “I like to think of it as a classic rock record”

In a new interview with the Boston Globe, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry talked about his new solo album Sweetzerland Manifesto.

“I like to think of it as a classic rock record, only it’s brand new,” Perry says. “If I had known what I know now, I could have done back in 1972. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel but definitely trying to make the wheel as round as I can.”  Continue reading Joe Perry talks Sweetzerland Manifesto – “I like to think of it as a classic rock record”

Hollywood Vampires announce 2018 U.S. tour dates
