Joe Perry adds book signings to tour calendar

The fact that singer Steven Tyler and drummer Joey Kramer had already written books didn’t prevent Joe Perry from penning (with David Ritz) his own behind-the-scenes account of Aerosmith. Indeed, if anything, Tyler’s take on the band motivated Perry, 64, to write his own book. And fans are glad he did, lining up at Brookline Booksmith Thursday to have the guitarist, his hair streaked with gray these days, sign copies of “Rocks: My Life In and Out of Aerosmith.” (Beforehand, Perry was at the Coolidge Corner Theatre talking with longtime Boston DJ Carter Alan.) ‘Rocks’ by Joe Perry with David Ritz

As a band forever dogged by Rolling Stones comparisons, Boston blooze-rock outfit Aerosmith might be expected to generate a literary canon that doubles as a Mick Jagger/Keith Richards-lite examination of what really went occurred in the mayhem days of groupie queues, stacks of amps, and energy sucking tours.
