Paul McCartney Revives 1969 Track for Joe Perry Supergroup

Ever since word trickled out that Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry had formed some sort of band, information about that project — called the Hollywood Vampires — has been scant. “We’ve done a lot of recording together recently,” Cooper told Rolling Stone last year. But now, more details are starting to emerge, and these involve a full album, a likely fall tour and a cameo appearance by none other than Paul McCartney. Aerosmith’s Joe Perry Tells His Story

Joe Perry just added “author” to his ever-expanding list of artistic endeavors. The co-founder of Aerosmith, and the lead guitarist of his own solo project, decided that it was time to finally share his side of the story. The esteemed guitarist has gone through a variety of record labels, management deals, and turmoil with his four founding bandmates — he even left Aerosmith for a stint in the late ‘70s to pursue his own band, the Joe Perry Project. Despite the ups and downs, Perry has made a lucrative career doing what he loves — playing guitar and creating music. Armed with a lifetime of knowledge about the ins-and-outs of the music industry, the rocker has recently churned out a rock and roll autobiography with the help of David Ritz titled Rocks: My Life In and Out of Aerosmith.

GRAMMY Pro caught up with Perry to chat about his recently released New York Times bestselling book in which he tackles themes such as bad management deals (the band fired their manager of 12 years, Tim Collins, in 1996) and shares insight into how Aerosmith has managed to stay together all these years. Perry also told us about his creative process in the studio and why he sets aside time to write music every single day, whether he’s working on a new album or not. Walk His Way: Aerosmith Guitar Legend Joe Perry Interviewed

joeperrycropIf one thing can be said of Joe Perry, it’s that the man flat-out rocks. Is there a more archetypal rock guitarist on the planet today than the legendary Aerosmith six-stringer? As one-half of the Boston band’s guitarsenal with Brad Whitford, Perry has been a driving force behind such Aerosmith classics as “Walk This Way,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On” … (the list goes on and on) since the band’s formation in 1970.

So it’s a natural choice for Perry to title his new autobiography Rocks: My Life In and Out of Aerosmith. Like Perry’s playing, the book is to the point, concise, punchy, powerful and smart. For a man who’s typically preferred to “Let the Music Do the Talking” (the title of the 1980 debut album from his solo band The Joe Perry Project), Perry turns out to be a great storyteller as he shares revealing memories not only of his up-and-down life with the band, but also his childhood (in which he was more interested in aquatics than music) and personal life.

It’s a great book from a rock and roll giant. When we spoke with Perry, he was in the midst of an exhaustive promotional effort to get the word out about his book. In the following interview, conducted exclusively for Technology Tell, Perry dishes on what prompted him to put together an autobiography, how he remembered his history (especially the years of “misadventures”), his guitar preferences, and the future of his band.

Walk this way, and enjoy… Continue reading Walk His Way: Aerosmith Guitar Legend Joe Perry Interviewed

Joe Perry Says Aerosmith Will Tour This Summer

Even though Steven Tyler is planning to dedicate the bulk of 2015 to working on a solo album, his bandmate Joe Perry is certain Aerosmith will be touring this summer. But, given Tyler’s other commitments and the band’s disillusionment with the nature of the music business, there likely won’t be any new material from the rock veterans this year.
